The fortune came from La Samaritaine; the taste ran entirely to the eighteenth century. Watteau, Boucher, a small Rembrandt, Fragonard pastels and Sèvres hang in the panelled rooms of the Hôtel Donon.
The top-floor cabinet of miniatures and gold boxes is the part most visitors skip and the part worth the climb.
